This is the part that matters most. A screenshot of a PDF page gives you a flattened picture at whatever resolution your screen happens to be. Extraction is different: it recovers the image data exactly as the author embedded it. If a magazine layout contains a 4000-pixel-wide photograph, you get that full 4000-pixel photograph back — not a blurry approximation of it. Most PDFs are full of images you do not actually want. A bullet point, a hairline divider, a corner ornament, a one-pixel spacer — technically these are all embedded images, and a naive extractor would dump hundreds of them into your ZIP alongside the three photographs you were actually after. The minimum size filter solves this by ignoring anything below a chosen pixel dimension. Leave it at 50 for normal documents. Raise it to 300 or more if you only want large, print-quality photographs. Drop it to 1 if you are auditing a file and genuinely need to see every single image object it contains.
PNG is lossless. Nothing is thrown away, transparency is preserved, and screenshots, logos, line art, and diagrams stay perfectly crisp. Choose it whenever quality matters more than file size, or when the image has a transparent background you need to keep. JPG uses compression that discards a small amount of detail invisible to the eye, producing files that are often several times smaller. Choose it for photographs, or when you are extracting a large number of images and want a ZIP that is quick to download and share.
