Add a text watermark to every page of your PDF
Stamp custom text across every page of a PDF — DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, your company name, or anything else. Set the position, size, and transparency, then download the marked document. Free, instant, and no watermark of ours added on top of yours.
To prevent a draft being mistaken for a final version. This is the most valuable use and the least dramatic. Documents circulate, get saved, and resurface months later with no memory of their status. A page stamped DRAFT cannot be mistaken for approved copy no matter how far it travels or how long it sits in someone's downloads folder.
To mark ownership. A company name across a proposal or portfolio makes the source clear wherever the file ends up.
To label samples and previews. Sharing a portion of paid work — a report extract, a design mockup, a course chapter — marked SAMPLE lets you demonstrate value while discouraging the preview being used as the product.
To discourage casual redistribution. A conspicuous CONFIDENTIAL stamp makes forwarding feel like a deliberate act rather than an oversight.
These two settings determine whether the watermark helps or gets in the way.
Diagonal across the centre is the classic arrangement for a reason. It covers the body of the page, cannot be cropped off without destroying the content, and is impossible to overlook. Use it when the marking matters more than comfortable reading — drafts, confidential material, and samples.
Corner or edge placement is far less intrusive and suits documents that need to be read carefully while still carrying an identifier. A company name in the footer of every page is a good example.
Transparency is the balance point. Too light and the marking is easy to ignore; too heavy and the document becomes tiring to read. A moderate setting where the watermark is unmistakably present but the text beneath is comfortably legible works for most purposes.
Short and unambiguous. DRAFT for anything unfinished. CONFIDENTIAL for restricted material. SAMPLE or PREVIEW for partial content. COPY for duplicates of a signed original. NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION when the boundary needs stating explicitly. Your organisation name for ownership.
Adding a date or the recipient's name is worth considering when you are sending the same document to several parties — if a copy surfaces where it should not, the watermark tells you which distribution it came from.
Agencies and consultants mark proposals and creative work as drafts during review rounds. Legal and finance teams stamp confidential material before internal circulation. Photographers and designers watermark preview versions of paid work. Educators and course creators mark sample chapters and handouts. Anyone sharing an unfinished document who wants its status to travel with it.
Upload your PDF by dragging it onto the box or clicking to browse. Enter your watermark text and set the position, size, and transparency. Apply and download the marked document. It is worth opening the result and checking a middle page rather than just the first — that is where you will see whether the balance between visibility and readability is right.
Being honest about this matters. A watermark discourages casual misuse and makes document status unmistakable. It does not stop a determined and technically capable person from removing it, and it does nothing to prevent the content being read.
For actual protection, use the right tool for the job. Protect PDF encrypts the file so it cannot be opened without a password. Redact PDF permanently removes sensitive content rather than marking the page around it. A watermark complements these; it does not replace them.
Your document is processed in memory and discarded the moment your download completes. Nothing is written to disk, nothing is logged, and no copy is retained. Works in any modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.
Add Page Numbers applies numbering across the document. Protect PDF adds password encryption, Redact PDF removes sensitive content, and Edit PDF adds text at specific positions rather than across every page.
